At West Craven Basketball Club, we pride ourselves in being able to offer a basketball training session, a team, and a competition that suits a number of levels of basketball player from the beginner to experienced, male or female, from 10 years old to much older, the recreational player and the player or coach chasing a dream.

Basketball is about much more than just playing or coaching we are also looking for team managers, referees, photographers, match reporters, statisticians etc. These can be an excellent opportunity for young people to gain experience and can provide a good foundation to begin their careers.

Basketball available at Sandylands Sports Centre:

  • West Craven Turbines:
  • Ages 10-16, practice weekly on a Saturday 10am-11:30am 
  • Ages 16-18, practice weekly on a Saturday 11am-12:30pm
  • Adults practice weekly on a Thursday 8:45pm – 9:45pm  
  • Coach: Renko Ireton

Basketball is very good for overall fitness, getting to know new people and making new friends.

Just show up and play, beginners welcome, £3.50 per session

NETBALL

  • Netball is the perfect sport for fun and fitness.
  • Improve your skills, get fitter and have fun. There’s also the opportunity to do additional competitive games and tournaments if you’re interested, with an adults ladies netball league.
  • We have regular social events too.
  • You can drop into one of our training sessions to see for yourself what it’s all about and chat to existing members.

WALKING NETBALL

  • Organised via cravenu3a.org
  • Helen White & Sheila Gregory are the group leaders.
  • People join u3a and can then apply to join the group. 
  • Tuesdays from 11am – 12noon 
  • Playing walking netball is good for balance, co-ordination and cardiovascular fitness.
  • The game is aimed at people who have played at school and want to rekindle lost skills  or those that have never played, but feel they are unable to play netball which involves running & jumping.
  • It is a group of mixed ability and includes young & old.
  • It is inclusive and the game is adapted to suit participants needs.
  • The group is open to men and women.
  • We do not organise teams to play outside the session.
